A Season of Renewal

Saturday, February 21, 2015

As many of you know, this past Wednesday was Ash Wednesday - the beginning of Lent.  I've always tried to give up something.  Something like pop, bread, or Facebook.  And I've never been committed.  I've never been able to stick to it.  I knew that this year was going to be different.  And it was going to be BIG.

Willpower has always been something I have struggled with.  It seems no matter how hard I try to do something, like eat right and exercise, I just can't seem to stick to it.  I always cave.  Just this one time leads to just this weekend. And just this weekend leads to I'll start again next Monday.  And we all know Monday never comes.  A snowball effect that results in me off that fit, healthy wagon.  So for this season of Lent, I have taken on three things in hopes of transforming my mind, body, and spirit.

  1. No added sugar
    • No. Sugar.  The thing that is in EVERYTHING.  This is the one that is going to be BRUTAL for me.  But it is also the one that has fascinated me the most so far in the past three days.  And the one that has led me to create this blog.
  2. No phone after 8:00
    • By this, I mean stop scrolling and build a better relationship with your husband who is sitting on the other side of the couch also lost in his phone scrolling.
  3. Bible every day
    • Something that I admittedly don't do nearly enough.  Taking time to read at least three chapters from the Bible every day to strengthen my relationship with God.

I've failed many times in the past, and I know that there are to be failures to come.  I know this is only day four, but I wanted to write this blog to keep me accountable and hopefully share some insight into the changes that are to come.  This is just the introduction.  I don't know exactly what direction this blog is going to go, but this is where I'm going to start.  I cant wait to share my journey to a better me.

  1. Behind you all the way! I'm excited for where this will lead -- especially the perspective on shopping for products without added sugar!
